Spring is a great time to get your lawn aerated especially if you live in Canada and even more so if you are in provinces like Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba because of our winters with cold weather and heavy snow. The heavy snow sits on top of your lawn all winter long and compacts the soil which makes it very hard for your lawn to breath. That's why aeration is so beneficial because all of the little holes that the aerator puts into your lawn it allows all the air, water and nutrients to get down to the root system. Now your lawn can breath and get the water and nutrients it needs to promote a healthier, thicker and more luscious lawn.
The two best times of the year to get your lawn aerated are the spring and the fall. The fall is also great time to get your lawn aerated because just after spring comes summer and during the summer months you have the heat from the sun shining on your lawn and drying it up, people walking on it and of course you have been mowing it as-well. This has been causing your soil to get compacted throughout summer. When soil gets compacted it prevents the air, water, fertilizer and nutrients from getting to the root system. Aeration will once again allow access to the root system so your lawn can survive the winter months.
